Sand Ceremonies

Your ceremony can include different elements that represent your own love story and the goals of what you want to achieve in the future as a married couple. Our Officiants can achieve all this with a Sand Ceremony.

What is the meaning of the sand ceremony?

It is the couple who come as individual beings with independent experiences and desires, and together, by pouring the sand into the largest container, they form a single family, and from that moment, their lives will merge into one.

Items needed for a Sand Ceremony

You will need:

  • A decorated table

  • Sand of two different colors (they can be the colors of your wedding or those that you will have in your home)

  • Two medium clear containers

  • And a large container where the sand will be poured in.

The individual containers will be previously filled with the sand you’ve chosen and they will go on each side of the decorated table where the ceremony will take place.

When the time comes, each one will pour your sand, in different turns and slowly, so that a design is created.

If you wish, you can use all the sand from the individual containers, but because of time and if you want to convey a message that the couple, even if they form a family, will maintain their individuality, leave a little sand in each container.

Make sure to choose the sand in different colors so that the chromatic contrast is better appreciated. A variant instead of the glass containers is a sand ceremony picture frame. Regardless of what you use, the final result will be very decorative and a beautiful memory of one of the happiest days of your life!

Exactly in what part of the wedding ceremony do you celebrate the Sand Ceremony?

It depends on the emphasis you want to convey. We recommend doing it before the exchange of wedding vows and rings, as these have special meanings on their own. But some couples may choose to do theirs after the ring exchange, as a closing to their ceremony. As the ceremony happens, you can choose to have soft background music (with string instruments to give it a more romantic touch) to enhance that special moment.

A Sand Ceremony is ideal for couples who have children, or blended families and want to integrate everyone as one family. The alternative would be to have more individual containers and colored sand that represent each of the members to symbolize that they will also form a symbol that they will also be part of their life together. It can also be used for renewal of wedding vows and wedding anniversaries.

The important thing about any ceremony is that the Officiant ties in the significance of the Sand Ceremony along with the couple’s own love story to make your wedding ceremony meaningful and memorable.
